Preox / Para-aramid

Thermally stabilised preox fibre is created by oxidation of polyacrylonitrile (PAN).

These fibres are normally combined with para-aramids (standard blending ratio: 70% preox / 30% para-aramid). Due to their high LOI (Limiting Oxygen Index) level of 45-50%, they are particularly suitable for heat or acoustic insulation and for technical textiles.

The preox / para-aramid blend is used primarily for textiles in which non-combustibility is required in combination with high temperature resistance.

Typical applications are fabrics for aircraft, train or bus seats, protective clothing for firefighters, heat protection clothing for steel mill or foundry staff and gaiters.
